A prospective, randomized, triple-blind comparison of articaine and bupivacaine for maxillary infiltrations

2011

Objectives: To compare the clinical anesthetic efficacy of 0.5% bupivacaine and 4% articaine (both with 1:200.000 adrenaline) for anterior maxillary infiltration in healthy volunteers. Material and methods: A triple-blind split-mouth randomized clinical trial was carried out in 20 volunteers. A supraperiosteal buccal injection of 0.9 ml of either solution at the apex of the lateral incisor was done in 2 appointments separated 2 weeks apart. The following outcome variables were measured: latency time, anesthetic efficacy (dental pulp, keratinized gingiva, alveolar mucosa and upper lip mucosa and tissue) and the duration of anesthetic effect. Hemodynamic parameters were monitored during the p…

Peripheral ameloblastoma: A case report

2020

Background Ameloblastoma is a rare tumor which develops from odontogenic epithelium and its remnants and it occurs in the jaws. Peripheral ameloblastomas are rare and benign extraooseous ameloblastomas which effects soft tissues. This case report declares a peripheral ameloblastoma which is a rare type of ameloblastoma. Material and methods 34 year old female patient referred with a complaint of a gingival growth at right lower premolar area. A firm and granular surfaced gingival growth with the color of pink and red and having 1.5x1 cm sizes was observed at the mentioned area. With an incision from lower right second incisor tooth to lower right second molar tooth a flap from bone was made…

Reactive hyperplastic lesions of the oral cavity: A ten year observational study on North Indian Population.

2011

Back ground: The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of focal reactive hyperplastic lesions of the oral cavity as reported in the Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology, Subharti Dental College, Meerut and to compare these data with those of previously reported studies from other regions and countries. Material and Method: Patient records of the Department of Oral Pathology were retrieved during a 10 year period from 2001 to 2010. Data of all reactive hyperplasias namely focal fibrous hyperplasia (FFH), pyogenic granuloma (PG), peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF) and peripheral giant cell granuloma (PGCG) were reviewed and analyzed for age, gender, and site of location. R…

Peripheral odontogenic keratocyst: Report of two new cases and review of the literature

2020

Peripheral odontogenic keratocyst (POKC) is a rare soft tissue entity showing the same histological characteristics of odontogenic keratocyst. Herein, we report two cases of POKC affecting the gingiva/alveolar mucosa. Case 1. A 43-year-old female was referred for evaluation of a painless well-defined nodular, sessile, non-tender swelling in the right maxillary buccal gingiva. No radiological alterations were observed. The patient was submitted to excisional biopsy and histological diagnosis was POKC. There were no signs of local recurrence after a 4-year follow-up. Case 2. A 63-year-old female was referred for evaluation of a painless well-defined nodular, sessile, yellowish swelling in the…

Primary malignant melanoma of the oral cavity: case report.

2002

An 80-year-old-female patient had a pigmented lesion on: the hard palate, the soft palate, the alveolar mucosa and the vestibolar mucosa of the maxillary gingiva. Pigmented macules and patchs had been persistent and asymptomatic for many years (Fig. 1). The lesion exhibited irregularities of pigmentation, border and surface contour. About 1 year later the patient had noticed an extension of the pigmented macules and plaques; there was also the appearance of nodules of the maxillary gingiva accompanied by swelling. Loosening of teeth as a result of extensive destruction of bone was further noted (Fig. 2). Figure 1. Pigmented macules and patchs with irregularities of pigmentation, border and …

Primary angiosarcoma of the alveolar mucosa in a haemodialysis patient: case report and discussion

1994

A case of a haemodialysis patient with a primitive angiosarcoma of the alveolar mucosa is reported. The vascular origin of the tumor was confirmed by the immunohistochemical data which showed strong positivity for Factor VIII-related antigen and for vimentin, whereas stains for desmin and cytokeratins were negative.

Oral cancer: A multicenter study

2017

Background To determine the prevalence and clinicopathologic features of the oral cancer patients. Material and Methods Biopsy records of the participating institutions were reviewed for oral cancer cases diagnosed from 2005 to 2014. Demographic data and site of the lesions were collected. Sites of the lesion were subdivided into lip, tongue, floor of the mouth, gingiva, alveolar mucosa, palate, buccal/labial mucosa, maxilla and mandible. Oral cancer was subdivided into 7 categories: epithelial tumors, salivary gland tumors, hematologic tumors, bone tumors, mesenchymal tumors, odontogenic tumors, and others. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics using SPSS software version 17.0. Resu…
